Program Structure

This specialization is designed to equip students with the essential skills required to overcome stage fear, build confidence, and develop a strong foundation for a successful acting career. The program provides a comprehensive understanding of acting techniques, presentation skills, and the art of performance through a structured, immersive learning experience. External drama facilitators are invited to help develop niche skills.

Unit 1: Foundations of Acting

The program begins with an introduction to fundamental acting techniques and the rich history of Method Acting, exploring Greek and Russian influences, including Aristotle and Stanislavsky. Students will also study the Natyashastra by Bharat Muni, gaining insights into the concepts of Rasa and Bhava. To develop a strong physical and mental foundation, training will incorporate yoga, physical exercises, music, and dance movements.

Unit 2: The Actor’s Body

This unit focuses on the significance of physical action in performance. Students will learn to commit to action, sustain belief, and develop body awareness. Key areas of training include purpose-driven movement, attention control, concentration exercises, and observational techniques to enhance physical expression.

Unit 3: Character Development

Students will explore the process of embodying a character, understanding the psychological and emotional dimensions of performance. Through intensive exercises, they will learn how to connect with the character’s emotions, motivations, and backstory, as well as effectively integrate these elements into their performance.

Unit 4: Voice and Speech Training

This unit develops vocal strength and clarity through breathing techniques, voice modulation, diction, speech patterns, pitch control, volume dynamics, and singing exercises. Students will refine their articulation and projection, essential for both stage and screen performance.

Unit 5: Performance Techniques

Students will engage in text and speech analysis, movement exploration, imagination-building exercises, monologue preparation, and scene work. This unit emphasizes script interpretation and creative expression, enabling students to craft compelling performances.

Unit 6: Final Production

Every three months, students will participate in a final production, integrating all the skills acquired throughout the program. This culminating experience serves as a practical application of their training, preparing them for real-world acting challenges and professional opportunities.

Instructions for Audition Video

The first round audition will be in the form of a monologue video, which you will submit along with the online application form. You can perform any monologue of 3-4 minutes of duration from any of the plays of the following playwrights:

1. Vijay Tendulkar
2. Mohan Rakesh
3. Girish Karnad
4. Dharamveer Bharti

5. Mahesh Elkunchwar

6. William Shakespeare
7. Bertolt Brecht

The monologue choice is gender-neutral. You can choose any monologue that you want to perform irrespective of either your or the character’s gender.

You can perform only in either Hindi or English.

In the video, state your name, play and playwright’s name before starting the monologue.

We recommend you read the play completely and be familiar with the character, context and the larger story behind the monologue. It will add value if you can create an ambience suitable to your character within available resources. Please note that suitable clothes and makeup will enhance your performance.

The judges want to see you perform as you would in a theatrical space, so it would be best not to use camera movements or editing. Place the camera steadily in one place and use your space for creative expression.

As a rule, you cannot be holding a script, the monologue must be memorised and performed.

Once you have made your video, upload it on YouTube.
